Good job, Seb Coe
Sebastian Coe, Head of World Athletics (formerly known as International Amateur Athletic Federation) announced in China that, as early as the next World Championships, in Tokyo, in September, there will be mandatory DNA sex testing for athletes entering female events.
In other words, no more Caster Semenyas, the South African athlete who looked more threatening than Mike Tyson in a bad mood and who won the women’s 800 meters both in the London Olympics in 2012 and in the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016.
From now on, any person competing in a female athletic event will have to submit to a “non invasive” cheek swab or a dry blood DNA test. It is very simple and nobody will be asked to disrobe for a “local inspection”.
So, the truth will be known in Track and Field. It remains to be seen whether the new head of the International Olympic Committee, Kirsty Coventry (a woman), will extend the tests to the other sports in the next Games, in Los Angeles, in 2028.
We all remember too well the scandal last year in Paris involving the two “women” who got gold medals in boxing.
Good job, Seb Coe.
